“Ethnic studies taught me that my perceptions of race, class, and gender were not as accurate as I thought…I came to understand the many struggles that Asian Americans share with African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans, as well as our differing experiences in this country…People of color—but more importantly, white people—need to know the too-often-untold history of people of color in this country. They need to know in order to make sense of what’s happening in ways beyond helpless sorrow or blind outrage. We need to know our real history if we want to make changes in our future.”
