Today we remember the life of dancer Fayard Nicholas, the eldest of the world famous, high-flying tap duo, The Nicholas Brothers. Throughout the storied career of The Nicholas Brothers, Nicholas was featured with his brother, Harold, in films like ‘Pie Blackbird,’ ‘Stormy Weather,’ and ‘Orchestra Wives’. In his 2004 interview with The History Makers, Nicholas recounted highlights in the duo’s career including opening at Harlem’s Cotton Club, dancing for King George VI, and performing with Billie Holliday, Count Basie, and Josephine Baker. The Nicholas Brothers’ tap students included entertainers Debbie Allen, Janet Jackson, and Michael Jackson. The Nicholas Brothers also have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and received The Kennedy Center Honors in 1991. Fayard Nicholas passed away on January 24, 2006.
